Maria Henneman (moderator)
A successful journalist and media and policy consultant who works both in the Netherlands and abroad. Henneman was editor-in-chief of Netwerk, a popular news and current affairs programme, and a reporter and anchorwoman for NOS Journaal, the nation-wide evening news. She also worked for the trade unions as a communications and policy consultant. Maria Henneman majored in modern history, with minors in economic and social history and general and comparative educational theory.

Charles Landry (urban visionary)
The founder and managing director of Comedia, a consultancy that specialises in culture and creativity as a driver of urban development. Landry, best-selling author of The Creative City, a toolkit for urban innovators, coined the term “creative city”. “Citymaking involves balancing order and chaos, creating latitude for innovation,” he says.

Odile Wolfs (Provincie Limburg)
Odile Wolfs is the Limburg Provincial Executive member with responsibility for culture. The Province of Limburg actively supports Maastricht’s bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2018. Wolfs is a fervent advocate of that endeavour. Cooperation within the Limburg region and the Euroregion and ongoing improvement of the cultural climate is her motivation for this. "Our exceptional Euroregional positioning is the basis of a progressive economic and cultural dynamism across the region. We want to take innovative and creative culture to a higher level when it comes to designing physical cultural infrastructure and cultural programming. We know our strength and the limits of what can be achieved."

Philippe Kern (KEA)
Philippe Kern, founder and managing director of KEA European Affairs, responsible for studies on the Economy of Culture in Europe & the Contribution of Culture to Creativity (both available on www.keanet.eu). Since 1999, KEA has specialised in providing advice, support and research in relation to creative industries, cultural, entertainment, media and sport sectors on international, national and regional level. "A climate of collaboration and cross-fertilization between local cultures is key to stimulating creativity," he says. "European countries and regions need to acknowledge the importance of their cultural assets in a new world, which requires new forms of divergent thinking."

Phil Wood (Comedia)
After a career in local government in the UK, Phil Wood has been for the last 10 years a freelance urban strategist working throughout Europe. His main interests lie in the application of creativity to the transformation of post-industrial towns and cities. In his book 'The Intercultural City: Planning for Diversity Advantage', he explored how cities might move from a mindset of regarding diversity as a potential problem, to it being a source of creativity and opportunity. Phil Wood was closely involved with the development of the Huddersfield Creative Community in the UK, where culture, economics and technology stimulate each other. During the conference, he will be exploring the relationship between creativity, culture and urban development. Wood will also be drawing parallels with regional initiatives in the Netherlands.
